The Next GTA Game Could Be Inspired by Netflix’s Narcos

Rockstar is pretty consistent in their updates for their two critically acclaimed series Red Dead Redemption and GTA Online. Recently we got fresh rewards and items in GTA to celebrate Independence Day and passes in RDR. If you’re still contemplating joining the party, the comprehensive GTA tutorial is at your service to introduce you to the basics of the iconic hit. What are you waiting for?

But the updates and addons don’t answer the one and only question: when can we enjoy GTA 6? Or even would there be the continuation of the iconic franchise?

So far, Rockstar didn’t provide any official statement. Neither do we have news about the new installment development nor consideration of it whatsoever. Yet, the internet remembers everything. And for sure, no gossip is really forgotten and let go until proven otherwise.

What’s All the Fuss About?

The GTA franchise is a big deal. As soon as the fifth installment was released, it was only a question of time when fans would ask for more to add to the story. Some said GTA 6 was back in development in 2012; then, the topic resurfaced in 2015. Yet, Rockstar was then focused on their other big project: RDR 2. Then the discussions were picked up again in 2019.

Specifically, in 2019, the sources said it would be inspired by the hit Netflix’s series Narcos. It makes a lot of sense, considering that both franchises deal with the topic of crime. More inspiration from real-life events and connections with other series would give the franchise a flavor many appreciate in it in the first place. And many of us would love to have business with iconic people and learn about them more.

Even though each game follows different events, characters, and locations, it is still interconnected within the GTA universe. The Narcos inspiration doesn’t contradict the lore and can be the next big hit. At the same time, GTA V has proven that it is possible to have two plotlines in the past and present days. Nothing stops Rockstar from exploring all nuances of the notorious drug empire held by Escobar.

More Leaks?

For about two years, the discussions became heated again. Even though some may argue that until someone from Rockstar confirms the information, the leaks have no relevance. Others appreciate a good deal of discussion. We all remember those leaks of other games that ended up being true.

We all appreciate the thrill of good news. But many of us prepare for everything that might come. This detailed Reddit post counts all points that can be true and picked up by many platforms to discuss. So far, many are focused on figuring out the release date rather than the story elements and plot.

So far, we can expect a new GTA 6 in 5 years. It is speculated that Rockstar is already preparing for some major announcements, according to the 10-K SEC filing. There’s no reason to rush the production, as some experiences show; it’s better to be steady and slow. So we can only keep our eyes on the updates and clues that social media accounts may give away.

The game also may promise a non-linear narrative and flashbacks. Even if the main plot won’t be set in the seventies or eighties, players would still have the opportunity to look into the past and participate in those events. The most interesting part would be the gameplay and how it would be improved further in the series.

The possible Netflix’s Narcos inspiration can lead players to meet with iconic characters or be in the heart of major missions involved in the past. Either way, we are all eyes on the Easter eggs and other perks that the GTA franchise is abundant with. If we got some Aliens last time, maybe having some quality Narcos drama and action is not that far from being accomplished.
