How to Treat Deep and Painful Pimples?

Have you had the experience of going to bed with clear skin but waking up to painful and massive pimples on your face? If your answer is yes, then you are not alone. Acne is one of the most common skin conditions in the world that affects millions of people globally.

Even though they come in many forms like whiteheads and blackheads, the most severe form of acne is a pimple developing deep inside the skin and resulting in a red, painful, and swollen bump. Read on to learn more about deep and painful pimple treatment.

Acne is a skin condition that not only affects teens but many adults as well. If you have acne, you might have a myriad of problems including red pimples or bumps on your skin, clogged pores, or deep pimples.

Fortunately, there are ways through which you can tackle acne at home, reduce the size, redness, and swelling of the pimple, and alleviate pain. It is important to note that there are no immediate or overnight cures for acne. But, this doesn’t mean that your option is to suffer.

The best option you have is to seek the help of a dermatologist who can assess your skin and prescribe the right treatment for you. Apart from this, you can try out a few tips to ensure that you have healthy skin in no time. Here are some options you have for deep and painful pimple treatment at home:

  • Before treating your skin, wash it using a mild and fragrance-free cleanser. While washing, make sure that you are gentle with your skin.
  • To reduce swelling and pain, you can apply ice. Immediately after you notice the blemish, you should wrap the ice in a paper towel and apply it to the blemish for 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat this thrice with 10-minute breaks in between.
  • If a whitehead has started to form, you can apply a warm compress. A warm compress can be made by soaking a clean washcloth into hot water. To avoid burning the skin, make sure that you don’t heat the water for a long time. Apply the warm compress for 10 to 15 minutes to your pimple. Repeat this three times or four times every day until your pimple releases pus and starts to heal.
  • Do not squeeze or pop the pimple. If you do this, you will just increase the risk of discoloration, scarring, and infection and make your acne more noticeable.
  • Do not use toothpaste on your pimples. It is a common misconception that toothpaste helps get rid of pimples and blemishes. Instead, toothpaste has several ingredients that can irritate your skin and clog your pores like baking soda, menthol, alcohol, and hydrogen peroxide.
  • Do not use homemade treatments that you might have found online or heard from a friend. There are several online articles promoting natural remedies for pimples and acne. However, they might not be good for your skin. Even if you are using a natural ingredient that has been proven to be effective for the skin, it could be combined with the wrong ingredient making it harmful.

The best treatment option that you have for deep and painful pimples is visiting a dermatologist who will not only treat these pimples but also prevent future breakouts. In case you need an immediate fix, they can also give you a cortisone injection that makes the pimple go away in a couple of hours, instead of days or weeks.

Please note that today, almost all cases of acne, including severe acne, can be treated successfully. However, your treatment might be different from others. So, visit a dermatologist and find the treatment that works best for you.
